The Jal Shakti (PHE) Department<\/em> workers and daily wagers staged a massive protest demonstration<\/strong> outside the Chief Engineer\u2019s office on BC Road, Jammu<\/strong>, demanding regularization of their services<\/strong> and release of pending wages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ongoing Protest Amidst Delayed Wages<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Under the banner of PHE United Front<\/strong>, the protest was led by Rajinder Singh Taj<\/strong> and other United Front leaders. The agitated workers assembled at the PHE Complex, BC Road, Jammu,<\/strong> and raised slogans against the administration for its failure to address their long-pending issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite 84 months of unpaid wages<\/strong>, assurances from the Lieutenant Governor\u2019s administration<\/strong>, and multiple rounds of talks with higher authorities, no concrete steps<\/strong> have been taken towards their regularization. Their strike has now continued for over 800 days<\/strong>, making it one of the longest-running protests in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union Leaders Voice Their Demands<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to media personnel, Rajinder Singh Taj<\/strong> highlighted the plight of thousands of PHE workers who have been struggling for their rights since June 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • \u201cDespite several meetings and promises, nothing has changed for us. Our families are on the verge of starvation. The government must act now,\u201d<\/strong> said Taj.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • He reminded the National Conference (NC) and Congress<\/strong> of their election promises regarding regularization of services<\/strong> and demanded their intervention in the upcoming budget session<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The implementation of SRO 64<\/strong>, which was abolished in March 1994<\/strong>, remains another key demand<\/strong> of the protestors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Massive Expansion, No Recruitment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The protestors pointed out that since 1994, over 7,000 new Water Supply Schemes<\/strong> have been introduced, with 1,089 new schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Jammu region alone<\/strong>. Despite this, no new employees<\/strong> have been recruited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • \u201cEach tube well requires at least six workers, yet we are overburdened with responsibilities without permanent employment,\u201d<\/strong> the protestors stated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Participation from Across the Region<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Braving heavy rains<\/strong>, workers from Akhnoor, Nowshera, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi, Kathua, and other districts<\/strong> joined the protest, showcasing the widespread discontent among PHE employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Workers’ Dire Situation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Union representatives Ravi Hans, Hoshiar Singh, Navdeep Singh, and Mohan Lal Sharma<\/strong> addressed the gathering and emphasized the dire financial situation<\/strong> faced by the workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • \u201cMany of us are unable to pay our children’s school fees or afford basic necessities. The government must release our wages immediately,\u201d<\/strong> they said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Call for Government Action<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        The protestors accused the LG Administration and BJP leadership<\/strong> of neglecting their grievances<\/strong> and warned of intensified agitation if their demands are not met<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
