The Government of India has allocated \u20b93,481.03 crore<\/strong> over the past four years to strengthen the healthcare sector in Jammu and Kashmir<\/strong> under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes<\/strong>. However, despite this significant investment, the long-standing demand for an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in North Kashmir<\/strong> remains unfulfilled. The Government has clarified that no such proposal is currently under consideration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major Healthcare Allocations in J&K<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The funds have been disbursed under key healthcare initiatives, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • National Health Mission (NHM)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Breakdown of allocations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • NHM:<\/strong> \u20b9459.10 crore (2021-22), \u20b9651.52 crore (2022-23), \u20b9805.22 crore (2023-24)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • PM-ABHIM:<\/strong> \u20b916.11 crore (2021-22), \u20b91.00 crore (2022-23), \u20b944.01 crore (2023-24)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • AB-PMJAY:<\/strong> \u20b975.12 crore (2021-22), \u20b985.62 crore (2022-23), \u20b942.22 crore (2023-24)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      These details were revealed in Lok Sabha<\/strong> by Prataprao Jadhav<\/strong>, Minister of State (MoS) for Health and Family Welfare<\/strong>, in response to a query by Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh (Engineer Rashid)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      No AIIMS for North Kashmir, Existing AIIMS Funding<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      The MoS reaffirmed that two AIIMS<\/strong> have already been sanctioned in Jammu & Kashmir:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • AIIMS Vijaypur (Jammu)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • AIIMS Awantipora (Kashmir)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        The Minister cleared that no proposal for another AIIMS in Kashmir is under consideration<\/strong>. He also provided financial details of the existing AIIMS projects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            New Medical Colleges & PG Seat Expansion<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            The Government has sanctioned seven new Medical Colleges<\/strong> in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            • Anantnag<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Baramulla<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Doda<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Kathua<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Rajouri<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Udhampur<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Handwara<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Additionally, under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

              • 196 new PG seats<\/strong> have been approved in J&K<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • 60 new MBBS seats<\/strong> have been allocated in two Medical Colleges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                Financial allocations for Medical College upgrades:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                • CSS for PG Seats Strengthening:<\/strong> \u20b911.47 crore (2021-22), \u20b97 crore (2023-24)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • No funds released<\/strong> for upgrading MBBS seats or establishing new Medical Colleges in recent years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  Medical Infrastructure, Equipment & Workforce Recruitment<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

                  Regarding medical infrastructure, equipment, and staffing<\/strong>, the Ministry clarified<\/strong> that while the primary responsibility<\/strong> lies with the UT Government<\/strong>, the Centre extends financial and technical assistance<\/strong> under NHM to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
