The Jammu and Kashmir Government informed the Legislative Assembly today that the Union Territory currently has one doctor for every 1,880 patients<\/strong>, acknowledging the strain on healthcare services while outlining ongoing efforts to improve the doctor-patient ratio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a written reply<\/strong> to a question raised by MLA Wagoora-Kreeri, Irfan Hafiz Lone<\/strong>, the Minister In-charge of the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department<\/strong> stated that the department is continuously referring vacancies for Medical Officers and Assistant Professors<\/strong> to the J&K Public Service Commission<\/strong> in a bid to bridge the gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udc68\u200d\u2695\ufe0f Recruitments Underway to Strengthen Healthcare<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The reply noted that 365 Medical Officers<\/strong> and 105 Assistant Professors<\/strong> have recently been appointed. In addition to regular recruitments, the Government is also availing services of healthcare professionals on a contractual basis under the National Health Mission (NHM)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the data shared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • 96 Specialists<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 418 Allopathic Medical Officers<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 874 AYUSH Medical Officers<\/strong>
    are currently serving across Jammu and Kashmir under NHM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The Minister added that as per Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS)<\/strong> norms, staffing requirements for Primary Health Centres (PHCs), New Type PHCs (NTPHCs), and Sub-Centres (SCs)<\/strong> are mostly met. However, there is no provision for specialists at PHC level<\/strong> under the current guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \ud83c\udfe5 Healthcare Facilities in Wagoora-Kreeri Constituency<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    In response to a query regarding medical infrastructure in the Wagoora-Kreeri Constituency<\/strong>, the Government reported the existence of 17 health institutions<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • CHC Kreeri<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • PHCs<\/strong> at Kalantra and Shrakwara,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • NTPHCs<\/strong> at K. Muqam, Nowpora, and Dudbug, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • SCs<\/strong> at Bulgam, Authoora, Chinned, Wagoora, Shaikhpora, Sherpora, Sultanpora, Walraman, Tangwari Bala, Waripora Bala, and Nilser.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      These institutions provide free screening for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)<\/strong> such as diabetes, hypertension<\/strong>, and various forms of cancer (oral, breast, cervical)<\/strong>. Essential medicines and diagnostics<\/strong> are also provided at no cost \u2014 175 drugs and 39 diagnostics<\/strong> at PHCs, and 96 drugs and 14 diagnostics<\/strong> at SCs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \ud83c\udfd7\ufe0f Infrastructure Development and Upgradation Plans<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      On the question of infrastructure expansion, the H&ME Department confirmed that administrative approval has been accorded<\/strong> for the construction of additional floors (G+2) at SDH\/CHC Kreeri<\/strong>, and tendering is in progress<\/strong> by the R&B Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      However, the Sub-Centre at Wagoora<\/strong> does not meet the IPHS criteria<\/strong> for upgradation to NTPHC<\/strong>. The Government cited the population figures \u2014 3,000 in Wagoora<\/strong> and 7,000 in adjoining areas<\/strong> \u2014 and the proximity of nearby health facilities<\/strong> like SDH Kreeri (4.5 km), PHC Shrakwara (3.2 km), and PHC Kalantra (6 km) as sufficient for current needs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
