Chief Minister Omar Abdullah<\/strong> struck a deeply emotional and reflective tone during the special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, saying that the spontaneous and widespread public outrage over the Pahalgam terror attack<\/strong> could mark a turning point in the Valley\u2019s battle against terrorism.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Assembly, already united in condemnation of the April 22 killings of 26 civilians at Baisaran, listened intently as Omar emphasized the people\u2019s role in fighting terror:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe cannot control a terrorist with a gun\u2014but we can end terrorism if people are with us.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting that protests broke out across the state without any party\u2019s call<\/em>, Omar noted this level of condemnation had not been seen in 21 years.

\u201cI invited those tourists to Kashmir as CM and Tourism Minister. I failed to ensure their safe return.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fighting emotion, he recounted heartbreaking stories\u2014a child crying beside his father\u2019s bloodied body, a young widow asking what her mistake was<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Politics, No Demands for Statehood\u2014Only Grief<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rejecting opportunism, the CM declared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCurse be on me if I go to Centre now and push for statehood. This is not the time for politics\u2014it is time for mourning and solidarity.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He promised that the focus must remain on healing and justice, not bureaucracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naming terror group The Resistance Front (TRF)<\/strong>, which claimed responsibility, Omar asked:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid we ask for this? Did we ask for 26 innocent people to be sent home in coffins?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, regardless of religion or region, categorically rejected<\/em> the attack and the ideology behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paying tribute to Syed Adil Hussain Shah<\/strong>, who died protecting tourists, Omar said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe could have fled\u2014but he didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He saluted locals who offered free food, rides, and lodging to stranded tourists, citing pony handlers, boatmen, and taxi drivers who displayed Kashmir\u2019s true spirit of hospitality<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assembly Remembers Its Own Pain<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Omar reminded the House of the personal toll terrorism has taken on many MLAs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom Shagun Parihar to Sajad Lone, from Rafiq Naik to Sakina Itoo\u2014many among us have lost loved ones to this violence.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to the 2001 J&K Assembly bombing<\/strong>, he said, \u201cOnly this Assembly understands this pain, not even Parliament.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a stern message, the CM warned social media influencers against spreading fake news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
