Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra<\/strong> has called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately announce a special comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package<\/strong> for the families affected by the recent cross-border shelling in Poonch, Rajouri, and adjoining areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karra, who strongly condemned Pakistan for deliberately targeting civilian populations<\/strong>, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those martyred and injured. He also expressed solidarity with those who suffered loss of property, livestock, and livelihood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karra was accompanied by senior party leaders, including Working President Raman Bhalla<\/strong>, former JKLC Chairman Jahangir Mir<\/strong>, AICC Secretaries Shah Nawaz Chaudhary<\/strong> and Neeraj Kundan<\/strong>, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma<\/strong>, MLA Iftikhar Ahmed<\/strong>, DCC Poonch President Rajinder Singh Kaka<\/strong>, IYC Secretary Ayaz Chaudhary<\/strong>, Mir Iqbal (Ex-BDC)<\/strong>, Kisan Cell Chairman Bharat Priye<\/strong>, and PYC Vice President Arif Qazmi<\/strong>, as they conducted an extensive tour of the affected areas in Poonch district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit to Affected Families<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The delegation visited Baila in Mandi<\/strong> to offer condolences to the bereaved family of Islamic scholar Qari Mohammed Iqbal<\/strong>, who was tragically killed in the shelling. They also paid respects to another martyr from Bandichechian<\/strong>. Karra noted with concern that a national news outlet wrongly labeled a martyr as a terrorist<\/strong>, which he termed \u201chighly condemnable\u201d and urged legal action against those responsible for this grave mischaracterization<\/strong>, which he said had deeply hurt the grieving family<\/strong> and tarnished the deceased’s image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayers for Peace and Communal Harmony<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As a mark of respect for the region\u2019s cultural and religious diversity, the Congress delegation visited Budda Amarnath Temple<\/strong> and Dera Nangali Sahib<\/strong>, offering prayers for peace, communal harmony, and brotherhood<\/strong>. Later, they paid visits to the Bagyala Masjid Zia-ul-Aloom<\/strong>, Gita Bhawan<\/strong>, Gurudwara Singh Sabha Mohalla<\/strong>, and the residence of martyr Surjan Singh<\/strong>, reaffirming their commitment to unity and solidarity across all communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation also visited the district hospital<\/strong> to inquire about the condition of those injured in the attacks, offering words of support and encouragement to the victims and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand for Immediate Compensation and Political Response<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During the tour, affected residents demanded urgent compensation for loss of life, homes, agricultural land, crops, and livestock<\/strong>. They also called for long-term rehabilitation efforts and increased government support in restoring normalcy to the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While addressing reporters, Karra criticized the Prime Minister for not mentioning Poonch<\/strong> even once in his recent speech, despite it being one of the most severely affected areas in the country. He reiterated Congress\u2019s demand for an all-party meeting<\/strong> and the convening of a special session of Parliament<\/strong> to deliberate on the entire security and political scenario\u2014from the Pahalgam carnage<\/strong> to the current ceasefire violations allegedly influenced by a third-party mediation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Humanitarian Appeal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Karra concluded by appealing to the central government to rise above political considerations and focus on the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the border districts<\/strong>.
