He has repeatedly stated, “The industry cannot regain its lost vibrancy unless all stakeholders work together.”

The Chief Minister, who oversees tourism, noted that both the government and industry needed to stand united.

Concerns Over Hotel Lease Agreements

During the meeting, Abdullah warned of a potential review of hotel lease agreements in key tourism destinations, including Jammu, Katra, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Srinagar, and Gulmarg.

This review may arise from the ongoing challenges within the industry and the apparent lack of collaboration from stakeholders on crucial tourism decisions.

Addressing Political Criticism

In his address, Abdullah criticized what he referred to as the “selective leakage” of official orders that tarnish the government’s image. “Only specific directives signed by me reach the media and opposition, while significant initiatives remain unreported,” he lamented.

His frustration peaked over controversial reactions to a planned tourism promotional event in Paris. The CM clarified that he and his advisor would not attend, indicating that state representation would come from officials and travel associations instead.

The Role of Tourism in Jammu and Kashmir’s Economy

Abdullah reminded participants that the region’s economy relies heavily on tourism and allied sectors. The reduction of tourist footfall has had dire implications.

According to recent statistics, tourism accounts for more than 10% of the region’s GDP and supports thousands of jobs. As such, any downturn impacts the livelihoods of many local families.

“Tourism stakeholders’ support is essential to reversing these trends,” said Abdullah, urging them to actively participate in promoting the region’s unique offerings.

A Call to Action for Stakeholders

As the meeting concluded, Abdullah’s message was clear: stakeholders need to recognize their role in supporting tourism initiatives. “Without a united front, our efforts to revitalize tourism will falter,” he asserted.

For Jammu and Kashmir to flourish again as a top travel destination, both government entities and industry players must foster collaborative efforts and open lines of communication.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah calls for collaboration among tourism stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir to revive the struggling sector during a meeting in Gulmarg.

[32

post-2585","post","has-post-thumbnail","category-kashmir
["GET
