Jammu and Kashmir Flood Relief: CM Omar Abdullah Seeks Centre’s Aid for Affected Regions
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaches out to flood-affected areas, hoping for a relief package from the Centre to mitigate the damage caused by floods and landslides.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently visited the land subsidence-hit Kalaban border area in Poonch district, where he assessed the damage caused by the floods and landslides. The region has been severely affected, with over 1,000 people displaced and more than 95 houses, a graveyard, and a mosque damaged.
Flood Relief Efforts
Abdullah expressed hope that the Centre will extend a relief package to Jammu and Kashmir, similar to the ones provided to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. He stated that the administration has been instructed to prepare a rehabilitation plan, which includes granting five marlas of land to the affected families under the existing policy.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the government is in communication with the central government and has presented their demands for a relief package. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive package to mitigate the damage caused by the floods and landslides, which have affected almost every district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Relocation and Rehabilitation
Abdullah acknowledged that the affected areas have become unsafe and that the residents cannot be resettled in the same location. He announced that the government will resettle the affected families in new locations, providing them with the necessary support and resources.
The government already has a scheme in place to provide landless people with five marlas of government land. Abdullah instructed the administration to prepare a proposal to present to the Cabinet for approval, ensuring that the affected families receive the necessary assistance.
Outreach Efforts
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of outreach efforts during this difficult time, stating that it is the government’s duty to help the people as much as possible. He acknowledged that the floods and landslides have caused unprecedented damage in Jammu and Kashmir and assured that the government will utilize its financial resources to ensure relief reaches the affected people.
