Sitharaman Urges India Inc to Invest and Expand Growth Capacities
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman encourages India Inc to boost investments and expand capacities during the IFQM Symposium, stressing the government’s supportive policies.
In a powerful address at the IFQM Symposium on Thursday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the imperative for India Inc to invest more and expand their operational capacities. Her message was clear: the government has laid down policies that meet industry expectations, and now is the time for businesses to act.
Government Support for Investments
Sitharaman’s call for greater investments was met with enthusiasm by industry leaders. She urged industry players to not only invest but to collaborate with the government on youth skilling initiatives and maintain ongoing dialogue outside of just Budget discussions.
Industry Partnerships and Engagement
Addressing Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran’s inquiries, she remarked, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently pursued reforms and addressed the industry’s wishlist.” She emphasized that the government has successfully improved the ease of doing business, reformed taxation, and opened the doors for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
Opportunities for Entrepreneurs
“Today I present a basket of achievements from our side,” stated Sitharaman, urging the industry to move beyond hesitation. “Invest further, expand capacities, and articulate what else you need from the government.”
Chandrasekaran responded positively, noting that the government’s avenues create vast opportunities both domestically and globally. He remarked, “I am confident that more entrepreneurs, alongside small and medium enterprises and large corporations, will invest heavily.” Without this investment, he cautioned, “we will not be able to seize emerging opportunities.”
India’s Resilience in Global Supply Chains
Chandrasekaran pointed out that the global market demands resilience and alternative supply chains. He believes that India stands out as a prime location for investment, with robust leadership under Prime Minister Modi.
The Essential Role of MSMEs
As the backbone of India’s economy, the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a pivotal role in contributing to the nation’s GDP. Sitharaman highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure that the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is operational in every MSME cluster, thereby supporting growth at every level.
“Even in an era dominated by digital banking, we insisted that SIDBI’s physical presence in these clusters is non-negotiable,” she asserted. This commitment aims to foster entrepreneurship and create opportunities for millions.
Overall, Sitharaman’s address not only illuminated the government’s ongoing support for industry growth but also galvanized India Inc. to seize the moment and invest in a future ripe with potential. With government backing and a call to action, the message is clear: now is the time for India Inc to rise to the occasion.
