Peace Vital for J&K’s Tourism and Sports Development: CM Omar

On Sunday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah underscored that peace is essential for the development of tourism and sports in Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah made this statement during the launch of the Real Kashmir Football Club’s latest jersey, promoting peace as a core value.

“For development, we require peace in everything,” Abdullah stated. He highlighted the importance of a stable environment for hosting evening matches. “If the situation is not conducive, who will participate in these events?” he questioned.

The jersey launch took place at the TRC Ground, where Abdullah articulated that the significance of the event extends beyond sports. “Peace is the foundation for everything. This jersey represents that message,” he added.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also addressed the need for peace in the region a day prior, mentioning lingering issues related to terrorism. Abdullah responded by stating that the responsibility of ensuring peace does not lie solely with him or his government. He stated, “Those who are responsible must fulfill their duties.”

He remarked on the criticism his government faces for law and order situations, asserting that the task of establishing peace does not fall under his domain. “My government is often targeted for various issues, yet peace maintenance is not our responsibility,” he explained.

Focusing on sports development, Abdullah expressed his administration’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir. “We are upgrading sports facilities in nearly every assembly segment, tailored to the interests of our youth,” he noted.

Additionally, he announced that various tournaments are being organized at district levels, with the second edition of the Kashmir Marathon scheduled for November 2. Abdullah invited athletes nationwide to participate, especially those interested in the half-marathon event.

In response to inquiries about the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, impacted recently by landslides, Abdullah acknowledged the difficulties. He assured that the 300-meter stretch affected would receive black-topping soon to restore normalcy, although he confirmed no vehicles were currently stranded.

During the jersey unveiling, Abdullah celebrated the partnership with iconic Danish sportswear brand Hummel. He emphasized that the special edition “Peace Jersey” embodies the potential of sports to foster unity and community spirit.

The jersey pays homage to Kashmir’s cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from the historic Hari Parbat Fort, which symbolizes communal harmony, housing various places of worship. Officials noted that the kit’s sky-blue color signifies peace.

Abdullah concluded by asserting, “Real Kashmir FC symbolizes how football can inspire and unite communities. Sports serve as a vital bridge for peace.” His comments highlight the intertwined relationship between stability and the growth of the tourism and sports sectors in the region.
