The Railways Department has confirmed plans to extend the Vande Bharat Express service, currently operating between Katra and Srinagar, to start from Jammu soon. This decision underscores the commitment to improving regional connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.
Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, announced that preparations are underway to facilitate this expansion. He explained that the delay in the extension was due to significant damage to railway tracks caused by recent floods and continuous rains. Kumar reassured the public of swift restoration efforts.
“We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu,” Kumar stated, highlighting the rapid progress of restoration work. He emphasized that the service will commence once all necessary safety clearances are obtained.
Introduced earlier this year, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service has considerably reduced travel time between the Valley and the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine base camp. The planned extension to Jammu aims to enhance regional travel, benefiting commuters, pilgrims, and tourists.
Officials indicate that once operational, the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat Train will run daily, providing improved travel comfort and significantly reducing journey times compared to current rail and road services. This service marks a substantial leap in catering to the growing demand for efficient transport in the region, aligning with the government’s vision to boost tourism and accessibility.
