AI-Powered Systems Transform Eye Care Access in J&K

Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the new Centre of Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital in Qamarwari, Srinagar, on October 2, 2023, aiming to enhance access to eye care in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). At the event, Sinha emphasized the necessity for affordable healthcare and the importance of connecting medical professionals with patients in rural and remote areas of the region.

During his address, Sinha highlighted that modern technologies have revolutionized the field of eye care. He stated, “Over the past decade, modern technologies have fundamentally transformed the eye care field, providing faster diagnoses and precise treatments. These advancements significantly increase access to healthcare and enable personalized treatment for patients.”

AI-powered systems play a crucial role in this transformation. They assist doctors in detecting early signs of various eye diseases, enhancing the chances of effective treatment. The Lieutenant Governor urged Dr. Agarwals Eye Centre and other healthcare facilities to leverage these new technologies. “It is essential that the treatment provided to the residents of J&K matches the quality found in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai,” he added.

Sinha also addressed the considerable advancements in the healthcare sector of Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, noting the efforts of the central government. “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we are ensuring that every citizen has access to quality healthcare,” he affirmed. The rapid expansion of both government and private healthcare infrastructure aims to provide a healthier future for all citizens.

In his call to action, the Lieutenant Governor encouraged Dr. Agarwals Eye Centre to organize free eye check-up camps across J&K, particularly in rural and border areas. He emphasized serving the public through innovative measures like telemedicine, virtual consultations, and digital examinations for wider reach.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of various dignitaries, including Dr. Ashar Agarwal, Chief Business Officer of Dr. Agarwals Group of Eye Hospitals; Dr. Atif Ali Mir, Head of Clinical Services at the hospital; and several senior officials from the health sector.

Notably, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary of the Science & Technology department, and Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary of Health and Medical Education, actively participated, evidencing the support for enhanced healthcare initiatives.

The Lieutenant Governor’s remarks reinforce the importance of integrating new technologies in healthcare. The ongoing efforts within J&K demonstrate a commitment to improving patient access and ensuring high standards in medical treatments.
