Jammu, 26th September 2025 — The National Commission for Women (NCW), under the leadership of Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, organized the Mahila Jan Sunwai (Rashtriya Mahila Ayog-Apke Dwar) today in Jammu. This initiative aimed to address women’s grievances through direct engagement, providing on-the-spot resolutions to the community. The event saw enthusiastic participation from several women reporting their concerns, underscoring the necessity of such outreach programs.
The Mahila Jan Sunwai not only served as a platform for women to voice their issues but also exemplified NCW’s commitment to ensuring justice and support through accessible means. Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to seek help directly from officials.
Throughout the day, the NCW successfully resolved multiple complaints, which included issues ranging from domestic violence to workplace harassment. The immediacy of the resolutions provided a sense of relief and empowerment to the complainants, reflecting a robust approach towards fostering a safer environment for women.
In remarks at the event, the NCW Chairperson commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their exemplary cooperation and swift action, which played a crucial role in facilitating the proceedings smoothly.
During the event, DIG Jammu highlighted the important role of law enforcement in addressing women’s issues, expressing gratitude to the NCW for choosing Jammu as a venue for this vital outreach. He emphasized the need for continuous improvements in policing methods to better respond to women’s safety and dignity.
Moreover, the Mahila Jan Sunwai marked a significant step towards strengthening institutional responsiveness. By directly engaging with the community, the Commission fosters trust between citizens and law enforcement agencies, particularly regarding women’s safety concerns.
At the conclusion of the Sunwai, a review meeting ensued, bringing together senior officers from the Police department and district administrative officials. During this discussion, specific guidelines were issued to enhance existing safety plans, focusing on organizing more seminars and programs centered on women’s security and empowerment.
A crucial element of this initiative included a PowerPoint presentation by the DIG Jammu and the District Administration, which detailed safety measures, facilities available for women, and pertinent data on crime prevention and detection strategies against women.
The proceedings of the event were overseen by key officials including Sh. Shiv Kumar, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range; Sh. Rakesh Minhas, IAS, District Commissioner Jammu; Sh. Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu; Sh. Virender Manhas, SSP Samba; Sh. Sandip Bhat, Additional SP of Udhampur; and Sh. Rahul Charak, Additional SP of Kathua. They, along with zonal SsPs from the districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur, played pivotal roles in managing the complaints that were addressed during the event.
