DyCM Choudhary Says We Will Not Resign Amid Challenges
Amid challenges, Jammu and Kashmir’s Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary asserts the government’s commitment to fulfilling the rights and promises made to the people, despite calls for resignation.

SRINAGAR, Sep 23 (PTI) – Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary firmly stated on Tuesday that despite facing numerous challenges, the elected government remains steadfast in its commitment to the people. During a press conference in Ganderbal district, Choudhary addressed the frustration surrounding the government’s performance.
“Some people want us to resign. But we are not among those who run away. We are workers of Sher-e-Kashmir. We will struggle and fight for the rights of the people. We will not show our backs,” said Choudhary, emphasizing the resolve of his administration.
Responding to concerns about whether the current government has been able to deliver on its election promises, he outlined the constraints they face. “Understand that we do not have a state government. The previous regime under the PDP led to the loss of special status and statehood. This altered our governance structure to a Union Territory system with limited powers,” he explained.
Choudhary asserted that despite these limitations, the National Conference government continues to strive to address the needs of the populace. “We will fulfill all the promises made by NC president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. We have been mandated for five years, not 10 months. Only then can you question which promises we have fulfilled,” he reiterated.
When asked about discussions on statehood and the restoration of Article 35A during the upcoming assembly session, Choudhary confirmed these matters were on the cabinet’s agenda. “We discussed this in our cabinet meeting today. We have reiterated our stance on statehood. The LG’s administration seems to be neglecting our concerns. Your questions are valid, but we need to consider the circumstances we find ourselves in,” he added.
Furthermore, Choudhary criticized the previous coalition government led by the BJP and PDP for their lack of development in the region. “The PDP and BJP have made claims of substantial development over the past 11 years. They should explain why, despite their so-called progress in connectivity, we are still facing severe traffic jams,” he remarked.
In his concluding remarks, Choudhary stressed that the current administration will not falter in its duties. He called for patience from the public as the government works within its constraints to tackle pressing issues.
